Christmas in Idaho - Toned Pages
There is a lot of snow in Christmas in Idaho.
From snow flakes to snow dust, from packed snow to falling snow, from snowballs to snowmen…
When Ray Downing was designing the illustrations for the book, he wanted to make sure that the snow was bright and glistening, that would jump off the page.
One way to accomplish this effect is to have the illustrations printed on paper that is not white.
Cream colored pages make a beautiful soft background and really let the illustrations shine.
In the illustration above, the same effect can be seen in the brightness of the star of Bethlehem and the light in Idaho’s lantern.
💠 Small details like page color can make a big difference.
